Empathy Social Responsibility and Education Association hosted a meeting and solidarity cocktail attended by AK Party MP Fatma Şahin, CHP MP Akif Ekici, Metropolitan Mayor Asım Güzelbey, Governor Süleyman Kamçı’s wife Mrs. Ayşe Kamçı, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Önder Büdeyri, Şehitkamil Mayor Metin Özkarslı, Sanko Holding Chairman Abdulkadir Konukoğlu, Gaziantep Chamber of Industry Chairman Nejat Koçer, Gülsan Chairman Mustafa Topcuoğlu, Turkish Association of Mothers Chairwoman Süheyla Tahaoğlu, Şahinbey Lions Club Chairwoman Nazan Tuğsuz, President of the Turkish Sports Federation for the Physically Handicapped Mustafa Veysel Gülpınar and many guests.
Paintings by renowned artists İbrahim Asaf, Ivan V, Ali Candaş and Bedri Rahmi Eyüpoğlu were exhibited at the event where Empathy Social Responsibility and Education Association Chairwoman Pınar Topçuoğlu made an opening speech and said, “It is very important for us to make a new start in Gaziantep. We are a team of young women set out to achieve our goals. We came together with the purpose of being a solution partner to social problems, increasing the welfare level of the society with educational projects, instilling the sense and sensitivity of being a social individual in everyone, and setting an example for the next generations.
There are 8.5 million people with disabilities in Türkiye and 26,000 in Gaziantep. Starting off on these striking figures, we have overcome all obstacles in our first social responsibility project. We are acquiring customized wheelchairs for our first and only wheelchair basketball team in Gaziantep. Thanks to everyone who provided full financial and moral support on this meaningful day.”
One of the highlights of the event was Melek Tekatlı reading all ten stanzas of the National Anthem. She is a Şahinbey Empathy Primary School student who started her life as a disabled person but learned to read and write in a short time by overcoming obstacles with her determination to read. Melek was applauded for minutes.
Nil Burak, guest of honor of the Empathy Association, gave a concert, impressing the audience with her stage performance. Gaziantep MP Fatma Şahin and many guests took the stage and sang the song ‘Bir Başkadır Benim Memleketim’ together with Nil Burak giving unity and solidarity messages to all segments of the society.
Nil Burak was presented with a plaque in memory of the day by the Chairwoman Pınar Topcuoğlu. President of the Turkish Sports Federation for the Physically Handicapped Mustafa Veysel Gülpınar presented a plaque to Chairwoman Pınar Topçuoğlu for their contributions to disabled people and said, “The people of Gaziantep have set an example for Türkiye and the world. The foundation of such an association graces us. The fact that the very first social responsibility project of the association is in benefit of disabled athletes is so precious. I congratulate all members in the person of the Chairwoman.”
